Realization of a rainfall monitoring system including management software for analysis, acquisition, processing, storage and transmission of data.
The area of the railway station in question (image 2 of the slideshow) presents the characteristics of the lower Tyrrhenian coast with rapid changes in slope and large seasonal rainfall, the cause of frequent landslides.
To have an indirect analysis on the conditions of the territory, determine attention thresholds and consequently take preventive actions for the safety of people, places and rail traffic, on commission of the Railway Authority this permanent rainfall monitoring system has been set up.
The monitoring system detects the rainfall data of the areas deemed to be of interest, by means of autonomous and remote measuring stations suitably positioned on the territory; stores the data locally, prepares them according to predefined strategies and transmits them to a collection center allocated at the Offices of the Railways Directorate in Reggio Calabria.
The system consists of 5 distinct stations plus one control (image 3 of the slideshow), located in an area between the Nondove Calabra (RC) station in the north and Reggio Calabria in the south.
The altitude of the stations varies from 750 m to slm, while the measuring stations, which are completely autonomous for both operation and power, are located in distinct places.
For each of them there is: an anchoring system suitable for the characteristics of the site; a data acquisition device complete with back-up batteries and radio modem; a rain sensor; a solar panel; a directional antenna for remote communication.
The control station at the Reggio Calabria railways operating center is equipped with a desktop PC for data acquisition connected to a radiomodem for communication with remote stations, an omnidirectional antenna and a server for managing remote clients.
